About our campus

One of the great advantages of The Abbey College is our magnificent campus. We aim to provide all the necessary facilities needed for students on one site.

70 acres (28 hectares) of private grounds include a well-stocked library, self-access centre, up-to-date computer rooms (for academic and personal use), three science laboratories, 15 classrooms, common room areas, a multi-gym, a licensed private bar for over 18's, and various other specialist rooms.

Students do not need to travel or pay for mainstream on-campus activities, which are supervised by our specialist staff in a safe environment. There is an active Student Council which co-ordinates the range of clubs, societies and other activities on behalf of the students under staff supervision. A balance is always found between work and play.

In addition to the list of sports and activites on right-side of this page,  there are other activities available in close proximity to the college which can be arranged for an additional charge, including horse riding, golf, hill walking, indoor swimming, squash, climbing, canoeing, bowling, go-karting and paintball.

For academic students the focus on classroom and homework time is much stronger, so activities are more limited than for other students. We do however encourage all students to become fully involved in extra-curricular events, since we do provide a choice of activities to suit all tastes.

Accommodation

Various types of accommodation are available,to suit different requirements.

The majority of students choose to stay on-campus in one of our residential houses, divided by age and sex, although host families and selfcontained rooms are also available.

Students on academic programmes have single or twin rooms, depending on age and availability. Rooms with a private bathrooare also available for an extra charge.

Students receive care 24 hours per day. Dedicated House Parents deal with in-house matters and both check-in and wake-up all under 18-year olds daily.

Under 16's receive particular care and attention. Houses have a common room area, and there are separate social areas for juniors and adults. Wireless Internet services are provided in most houses for students with the appropriate equipment.

Laundry

A weekly laundry service is provided for some items, with washing machines available for extra items. Clean bedding is provided weekly and communal areas are cleaned daily.

Meals

Three meals per day are provided daily on-campus, seven days per week, for all students, and are included in the fees. Brunch may be offered as an alternative to breakfast and lunch at weekends. The college operates a smartcard system, allowing students to purchase extra items if required.
